Principal Investigator

Jae-Hyun Jung, PhD, FAAO

Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School
Assistant Scientist, Schepens Eye Research Institute/Massachusetts Eye and Ear Research Staff Scientist, Massachusetts General Hospital

Dr. Jae-Hyun Jung is currently an Assistant Professor at Department of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School and an Assistant Scientist at Schepens Eye Research Institute/Mass. Eye and Ear.

He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Seoul National University, Korea, in 2012. He is Fellow of American Academy of Optometry (FAAO). He was presented the Alice Adler Fellowship Award and Best paper of the year award by Harvard Medical School, and Merck Young Scientists Award by Society for Information Display (SID). Dr. Jung is a consultant to many companies of head mounted displays (HMD) and vision aids and institutions of vision science.

Dr. Jung’s research focuses on the interface between electrical/optical systems and human vision. He proposes to uncover the principles underlying human visual perception and apply them to improve displays and vision aids using engineering approaches. He has studied realistic and effective visual representation methods to interact with people. He also has studied various three-dimensional (3D) imaging and display systems and image processing methods to restore vision and rehabilitate visually impaired people.

His current research interests focus on AR/VR simulations for mobility testing and training (NIH), spectacle mounted vision aids for low vision (NIH), image enhancement system for retinal implants (DoD), 3D microscopy and display systems to obtain real-time 3D information of specimen.
